Registering New Domains for Profit

A wonderful video released today by 45n5.com about making lots of money just from registering domains. I think that, if done intelligently, you could double your money in a year (emphasis on making sure you know what you’re doing first). Here’s the video:

The method basically boils down to the following:

1. Choose a niche. I’d recommend a niche with commerical appeal.

2. Quality domains.. Choose .com’s. Ignore the other tld’s and don’t choose a domain with a dash or a number in it.

3. Keyword tool. Go to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Type in your keyword and click “get keyword ideas.”

4. Sort. Sort your results by average search volume. This ensures that the most popular keywords are at the top of your list.

5. Copy the results. Mark comes up with a complicated way of copying the results. Instead of following his instructions, I suggest you simply click the “download all keywords” link at the bottom of the keyword list.

6. Bulk domain check. You then simply paste the results in a bulk keyword checker. Mark uses the one at Godaddy, which is fine. I prefer to use the one at Moniker. With either tool, you don’t need to worry about deleting spaces or adding .com at the end.

7. Choose domains. You now have a list of keyword rich domains that are available. Go through the list and choose the best one(s) that are available and register them.

8. Rinse and repeat.

Obviously, following this method takes a lot of time – to get far with this as a domainer, you’d need to find thousands of domains. But it is time well spent if you are just starting out in the industry. Or, you could do a combination of this and what Mark seems to be doing, which is building mini-sites on the domains and SEO’ing them.
